President Donald Trump has introduced a program providing $1 million vouchers to individuals named in documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, allowing them to petition for the redaction of their names from public records.
The move comes amid renewed scrutiny of Epstein's associations, following a Justice Department review that confirmed no formal client list exists and affirmed the financier's death was by suicide.
White House officials describe the vouchers as a dual-purpose tool to invigorate economic activity through direct payments and shield innocent parties from reputational harm. Trump emphasized the program's practicality during a press briefing.
"This is about fairness and getting the economy roaring again," he stated. "For just a million bucks, you can wipe the slate clean and focus on making America great."
The Epstein documents, unsealed in prior court proceedings, mention various prominent figures but do not substantiate wrongdoing for many listed.
Recent denials by judges in Florida and New York to release additional transcripts have fueled debates over transparency.
A senior administration advisor elaborated on the initiative's framework. The vouchers would be funded through a combination of federal allocations and voluntary contributions from private donors.
Eligibility requires applicants to demonstrate potential economic disruption from the exposure.
Former President Bill Clinton, whose name appears in the files without allegations of misconduct, addressed the offer indirectly.
Clinton has long maintained he severed ties with Epstein after the 2008 conviction. His foundation continues to advocate for global health initiatives unaffected by the controversy.
"Options like this could prevent undue suffering for families," Clinton remarked. "Though justice must always come first."
The program aligns with broader efforts to address conspiracy theories surrounding Epstein, as the FBI's exhaustive memo dismissed claims of a hidden list.
Officials anticipate the vouchers will generate revenue via processing fees, potentially offsetting costs while promoting stability among business leaders.
