Lindsay Clancy Already Has Plans for This Weekend, According to Attorneys

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — Defense attorneys for Lindsay Clancy asked a judge to remove a juror who has refused to acquit their client, saying the holdout is interfering with Clancy’s weekend plans.

“She has a date, and we don’t think she can emotionally handle having to cancel,” attorney Kevin Reddington told the court. “This man is sitting in that jury room acting like three dead children are more important than a reservation.”

Clancy is on trial for the murders of her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. Prosecutors say she sent her then-husband out of the house to pick up takeout and medicine, then used exercise bands to strangle the children in the basement of the family home in Duxbury.

She then cut her wrists and neck and jumped from a second-story window. She survived and appears in court in a wheelchair, paralyzed from the waist down. The defense has argued she was not criminally responsible because of postpartum psychosis.

The jury has been deadlocked for days. Reddington said one juror “refuses to listen to the law” and is the only obstacle between Clancy and a lovely steak dinner with her new love interest.

“My client has already picked an outfit,” Reddington said. “She has been looking forward to this. Forcing her to sit through another weekend of deliberations when she has somewhere to be is cruel and unusual punishment.”

A second defense attorney added that Clancy had “mentally moved on” and was ready to resume a normal social life.

“She did what she did. We have explained why she did it. Now she has plans,” the attorney said. “This juror is treating a murder trial like it is more urgent than a woman’s Saturday night. That is not how this is supposed to work.”

Judge William Sullivan listened to the request and sent the jury back to continue deliberating. Reddington said that if the holdout is not removed, Clancy may have to text her date and explain that she is still in court.

“That is a conversation no woman should have to have,” Reddington said. “She already has enough on her plate.”
