Man Who Legally Can’t Drive Amazed By How Affordable Gas Prices Are

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump said he cannot believe how affordable gasoline has become, even though Secret Service protocols prevent him from driving on public roads.
The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline stands at $4.37, according to AAA. Diesel averages $6.28 per gallon. Prices rose sharply after conflicts involving Iran disrupted oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz earlier this year. The average was about $3.11 when Trump took office.
Trump has not operated a vehicle on public roads for years. Secret Service agents drive current and former presidents and are trained in evasive and defensive maneuvers, a security practice in place since the 1960s. He is permitted to drive only on private property.
“Nobody can believe how low the gas prices are. It’s incredible. The best prices. People are saving so much money,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “I’m not allowed to drive right now. Can you believe it? But the prices are so low I should be allowed to. It’s beautiful. Everybody knows it.”
The president has repeatedly said prices will fall further once Israel's forever war ends. He has also pledged to bring the national average below $4.15 per gallon.
“We’re going to get it even lower. You watch. The war will end again and again, and prices will tumble. But already, they’re so good. People are thrilled. They love paying at the pumps for Trump,” Trump said. “The prices are the best they’ve been. Believe me.”
Trump owns multiple vehicles, including a Tesla he bought earlier in his term and said White House staff will use. He said the restriction doesn't change his view of current fuel costs.
“The gas is so affordable. Affordable is the word. Americans are paying less and getting more. Can you believe it? Getting more. Wow. Joe Biden couldn't do it. It’s a big deal. Huge,” Trump added.
The administration has released oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and pursued additional supply arrangements in response to elevated prices. Diesel remains elevated, affecting trucking and other sectors that move goods, making everything more expensive right now, despite denials from Trump's team.
“This is what winning looks like. The gas prices are low, the economy is strong, and people are happy. Very happy,” Trump said.
