Activists Push to Rename Father’s Day to ‘Male-Identifying Person With Children’s Day’

Left-wing activists have launched a petition calling for Father’s Day to be officially renamed "Male-Identifying Person With Children’s Day," arguing that the traditional holiday title no longer reflects modern understandings of family, gender, and parenthood.

The petition, which quickly gained attention online, states that the word "father" carries outdated assumptions about biology and gender identity.

Organizers say the revised name would create a more inclusive celebration for all individuals who perform father-like duties while identifying in a variety of ways.

"We're not eliminating the holiday," said activist Jordan Whitmore. "We're just updating the language so that everyone can feel represented, even those who aren't fathers but identify as having children."

The campaign follows years of efforts by progressive advocacy groups to replace gendered terminology in public institutions, workplaces, and educational materials.

Several organizations have encouraged the use of terms such as "pregnant people" and "birthing persons" in place of words traditionally tied to biological sex.

Under the proposal, children would be encouraged to wish a happy Male-Identifying Person With Children’s Day to any qualifying adult after first reviewing a helpful eighteen-page eligibility guide.

Greeting card manufacturers acknowledged the change could present design challenges.

"This is a very detailed holiday name with a lot of words," said one industry representative. "Under the new guidelines, we're probably going to have to make larger cards."

Major retailers reportedly began testing new merchandise bearing the proposed title, though early prototypes required coffee mugs with unusually large handles to accommodate the text.

The petition also recommends updating popular Father’s Day traditions. Organizers suggested replacing phrases such as "World’s Best Dad" with "World’s Most Affirming Male-Identifying Person Performing a Paternal Adjacent Role Within a Diverse Family Structure."

Several participants at a planning meeting reportedly spent the entire afternoon debating whether the word "children" should also be replaced with "age-diverse dependents."
