Trump Pledges to Drive Grocery Prices Higher to Benefit People Who Own Groceries

President Donald Trump announced that he has no intention of allowing grocery prices to fall, insisting instead that food costs must hold their value or even increase to benefit those who truly own groceries.

Speaking to reporters after a Cabinet meeting focused on economic priorities, Trump emphasized that devaluing essentials like milk, beef, and produce would harm hardworking Americans who have invested in their pantries and shopping carts.

"I don't want to drive grocery prices down," Trump said.

"I want to drive grocery prices up for the people who own groceries. People who own their groceries, we're going to keep them wealthy. We're going to keep those prices up. We're not going to destroy the value of their groceries so that somebody who didn't work very hard can buy a steak or a gallon of milk for cheap."

Trump pointed out that many Americans have built substantial equity in their food supplies over the years, turning everyday items into valuable assets.

He argued that falling prices would wipe out those gains and leave grocery owners feeling poor despite their efforts.

"You look at what happened before," Trump continued. "Groceries went up tremendously under the right policies, and people became rich. They feel wealthy when they look in their fridge. Beef prices high, coffee prices strong. That's how you make America great. We have to protect that."

The president's remarks come amid ongoing economic data showing grocery costs continuing to rise, with recent reports indicating families paid hundreds more for food last year compared to the previous one.

Items like beef, dairy, and produce have seen sharp increases, which Trump described as positive developments for those invested in the grocery market.

Administration officials have maintained that strong grocery values support national security and family budgets in the long term, though Trump made clear that his priority is to preserve and enhance the value of existing grocery holdings.

Trump dismissed suggestions that lower prices might help everyday shoppers, repeating that his focus remains on those who already "own" groceries through careful stockpiling and smart purchasing.

"Groceries are a beautiful thing," he added. "It's an old-fashioned word, but it's tremendous. We're going to make them hold value. Believe me."
