Texas Senator Ted Cruz has yet to touch a Bible since his widely discussed interview with Tucker Carlson, where he fumbled through basic questions about scripture, according to sources close to his office.
Staffers report that the senator’s Bible, a leather-bound edition prominently displayed on his desk, has remained untouched, gathering dust as Cruz relies on his team to handle any scriptural inquiries.
During the interview, Carlson pressed Cruz on his familiarity with key biblical passages, catching the senator off guard. Cruz, known for invoking faith in campaign speeches, struggled to recall specific verses.
One aide, speaking anonymously, said Cruz frequently requests biblical references to support his public remarks. “He’ll make us find something about strength or justice, and we’ll have to Google the right chapter and verse,” the aide revealed.
The team reportedly maintains a shared document titled “Cruz’s Bible Cheat Sheet” to keep up with his requests.
Another staffer noted that Cruz’s office Bible has become more of a prop than a resource.
“It’s like a museum piece at this point,” the staffer said. “He’ll point to his Bible during meetings to make a point, but I’ve never seen him crack it open.”
The senator’s reluctance to engage directly with scripture has raised eyebrows among his evangelical base. Cruz has not addressed the controversy publicly, though insiders say he’s been briefed on the social media fallout.
A junior researcher in Cruz’s office described the senator’s approach as efficient rather than evasive.
“He’s a busy man, so he delegates the deep dives,” the researcher explained. “It’s not like he doesn’t know the Bible. He just prefers we handle the specifics.”
Despite the delegation, some staffers worry the senator’s detachment from scripture could undermine his image as a faith-driven leader.
The untouched Bible, they say, symbolizes a broader trend of prioritizing optics over substance in political circles.
