Illegal Mexican immigrants have reportedly begun self-deporting after a wave of viral memes placed sombreros on prominent Democrat politicians, celebrities, and athletes.
The trend began when President Donald Trump posted an edited image of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries wearing a massive sombrero.
Within hours, social media users expanded the gag to include Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, LeBron James, Taylor Swift, and even the President himself. The images, often crudely edited, have been circulated millions of times, sparking a cultural panic among progressive activists.
“This is humiliation at the highest level,” said a young man preparing to board a bus back to Mexico. “When I saw President Trump mocking my heritage, I knew this country was no longer safe for us. This is psychological warfare, and I can’t take it anymore.”
Two days later, immigration officials reported an unexpected surge in walk-outs at border checkpoints. Agents say illegal immigrants are lining up voluntarily, citing “emotional damage” from the memes.
“This is unprecedented,” said one overwhelmed border patrol officer. “Usually, they try to sneak in. Now they’re demanding to leave, and they want us to stamp their passports on the way out so they have proof they were here.”
Video clips posted online show groups of illegal immigrants chanting “No más sombreros” while loading into vans headed south. Others were spotted burning American flags while wearing sombreros as a form of symbolic protest.
“They can’t make jokes like this and expect us to stay,” said another man outside a detention center. “One sombrero joke, maybe we stay. But when everybody gets sombreros, it’s over.”
Political analysts warn that the mass exits could strain Mexico’s economy as thousands of people arrive suddenly without housing or employment. Mexican officials have not yet commented publicly, though reports suggest mayors in border towns are scrambling to open shelters.
President Trump celebrated the movement at a rally, holding up a giant sombrero to roaring applause.
“We found the best immigration policy,” he said. “It’s called memes. Memes are stronger than walls, stronger than the loser Democrats, and stronger than the cartels.”
The sombrero trend continues to spread online with no signs of slowing down. Some Republicans are even asking when the memes will force Democrats themselves to leave the country.
