Man Buys a Few Items on Amazon, Charged $6 Million in Tariffs

A Pennsylvania man was stunned to discover that his routine Amazon purchase came with a staggering $6 million tariff charge, which he attributes to policies enacted by President Donald Trump.

Bryan Liebowitz, a professional anti-Trump protester, said he was simply trying to buy a few household items when the eye-popping fee appeared at checkout. He admitted to being too shocked to capture a screenshot but insists the amount was exactly $6 million.

Liebowitz, who spends his days outside government buildings holding signs that read “White House Occupied by FELON,” said he’s never seen anything like this in his years of online shopping.

The 34-year-old, who describes himself as a “full-time activist,” typically orders items like biodegradable straws and fair-trade coffee to support his lifestyle.

“I was just getting some essentials, maybe a candle or two, and suddenly I’m on the hook for the GDP of a small country,” Liebowitz told reporters. He claimed the charge appeared after he added a pack of organic kale chips to his cart.

The incident comes amid ongoing debates over Trump’s trade policies, which include steep tariffs on imported goods to bolster domestic manufacturing. Critics argue these measures drive up consumer costs, though supporters say they protect American jobs.

Liebowitz, however, sees it as a personal attack. “This is Trump’s revenge on people like me who speak truth to power,” he said. “He's literally Adolf Hitler.”

Amazon has not confirmed the $6 million charge, stating only that pricing errors are rare and typically resolved quickly. A spokesperson noted that tariffs are applied at the national level, not individual transactions.

Still, Liebowitz remains unconvinced, pointing to his activism as the likely cause. “I’ve been posting about Trump’s policies on BlueSky for months,” he said. “They must have my IP address flagged.”

Economists have weighed in, noting that while tariffs can increase costs, a $6 million charge on a single purchase is mathematically impossible. The average American faces modest price hikes on imported goods, often a few dollars at most.

Liebowitz is now crowdfunding to cover the alleged fee, with a GoFundMe page titled “Save Bryan from Trump’s Tariffs.” As of last check, it had raised $47, mostly from his fellow protesters.

“This isn’t just about me,” Liebowitz said. “It’s about every American who dares to shop online while resisting tyranny.”
