Gavin Newsom Boasts Record-Low Crime Rates as Los Angeles Burns During Riots

Governor Gavin Newsom took to a series of podcasts this week to celebrate what he claims are the lowest violent crime rates in California history, even as Los Angeles grapples with widespread chaos, looting, and arson.

The governor’s bold declaration comes amid ongoing unrest in the city, sparked by resistance to federal immigration enforcement actions ordered by the President of the United States.

Newsom, speaking on the "Golden State of Mind" podcast, expressed unwavering pride in California’s approach to law and order.

"We’ve achieved a historic milestone here, folks, the lowest violent crime rates since I took office, and it’s all thanks to our progressive vision of peace and harmony," he stated.

The governor emphasized that California’s commitment to innovative policies has created a model for the nation, despite visible flames and shattered storefronts dominating news coverage.

Los Angeles has faced intense turmoil in recent days, with reports of protesters clashing with federal agents, vehicles set ablaze, and businesses ransacked.

The unrest began after Immigration and Customs Enforcement launched operations to detain undocumented immigrants, prompting widespread demonstrations across the county.

On another podcast, "Cali Dreams and Realities," Newsom doubled down on his optimistic outlook.

"Look, the data doesn’t lie—our streets are safer than ever, and that’s because Californians know how to respond to news they dislike with grace and dignity," he said.

The governor pointed to state investments in community programs and relaxed sentencing laws as key drivers of the purported decline in crime statistics.

The situation in Los Angeles remains tense, with federal officials deploying National Guard troops to restore order.

Newsom, however, framed the chaos as a testament to California’s unique approach to governance, urging residents to remain calm and trust in the state’s leadership.
