President Donald Trump, backed by the neo-MAGA movement, has pledged to make the Jewish lobby the most powerful lobby in America in the new year. The announcement came during a White House Hanukkah party, where Trump addressed concerns about declining influence for Israel and its supporters in Washington. Trump warned that Israel and the Jewish lobby have lost their influence in Washington and that Congress is becoming antisemitic. He added that the Jewish lobby is no longer the most powerful in the United States. To counter this trend, the president outlined a plan to restore and expand the lobby's reach by increasing funding and prioritizing policies that criminalize antisemitic speech. "It's time to make the Jewish lobby great again, the most powerful one out there," Trump said. "It's the least we can do."
The pledge aligns with longstanding ties between Trump and pro-Israel groups like the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, known as AIPAC. The organization has spent massive amounts benefiting Trump and his allies in recent elections. AIPAC encourages the U.S. government to enact policies that strengthen relations with Israel, including arms sales and security aid. AIPAC has applauded congressional actions, such as rejecting attempts to ban weapons sales to Israel. The group has highlighted provisions in defense bills that support Israel. With Trump's backing, neo-MAGA figures have echoed the call to prioritize the Jewish lobby over other interests.
"We need to give them total control to fix what's broken in D.C.," said a senior White House advisor, speaking on condition of anonymity. "No more half measures."
The advisor explained that the plan includes directing federal resources to lobbying efforts and shielding them from criticism. This comes amid shifting public opinions, where younger Republicans prefer funding domestic health care over unconditional aid to Israel.
"America's policies should serve all citizens, not just one lobby," said Sen. Bernie Sanders in a statement.
The neo-MAGA push frames the empowerment as essential for national security. Trump administration officials argue that enhancing the Jewish lobby's power will ensure unwavering support for Israel against global threats.
