FBI Struggles to Find Autistic Black Man to Blame for Brown University Shooting

ree

Federal investigators have intensified their search for a black man with autism to serve as the primary suspect in the recent mass shooting at Brown University, where a masked gunman killed two students and wounded nine others in an engineering building.

The shooting took place during a review session in the Barus and Holley building on the Ivy League campus. Authorities have released surveillance footage showing a person of interest dressed in black and wearing a mask walking near the scene before and after the attack, but no arrest has been made days into the investigation.

An FBI spokesperson acknowledged the challenge in identifying a suspect who fits established patterns from previous incidents.

"We are looking high and low for someone who matches the profile that has worked in the past," the spokesperson said. "It would make explaining this a lot simpler."

Law enforcement sources indicated that the bureau has expanded efforts beyond traditional manhunts.

One official familiar with the probe suggested opening an application process for qualified individuals.

"We just need a suspect, that's all," the official said. "Someone black, autistic, maybe with a history that ties neatly into the narrative."

Additional details from the scene include recovered 9mm shell casings and eyewitness descriptions of a man in his thirties. Police believe the gunman targeted the university specifically and spent hours casing the area beforehand.

A separate agency representative noted that without the right suspect, public briefings become more complicated.

"Ideally, we'd have someone to point to right away," the representative said. "This delay is unusual."

The investigation continues with hundreds of tips pouring in, though none have yet produced the desired profile.

Authorities urged the public to come forward with any leads on potential candidates.
