Mike Johnson Considers New Vacation Spot Absent Controversial Epstein Files

ree

House Speaker Mike Johnson is reportedly mulling over a unique getaway option as Congress wraps up its session ahead of the traditional summer break.

Sources familiar with the matter, including those allegedly connected to Johnson's extended family, indicate that the Louisiana Republican has expressed interest in Little St. James, the private island once owned by financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The property, located in the U.S. Virgin Islands, gained notoriety for its association with Epstein's criminal activities, which involved sex trafficking and exploitation of minors before his death in 2019.

The island itself features luxurious accommodations, including a main residence, guest villas, and a distinctive temple-like structure amid lush tropical surroundings. It was sold in 2023 to investor Stephen Deckoff for $60 million, with plans to transform it into a high-end resort open to the public.

"Mike has been under a lot of stress with the ongoing debates in the House," said a source close to Johnson's third cousin, who spoke on condition of anonymity. "He needs a place where he can unplug completely, and Little St. James offers that seclusion now that it's being redeveloped."

The House adjourned early this week amid heated discussions over whether to vote on measures related to additional Epstein documents, with some Republicans pushing back against calls for further transparency.

Court documents unsealed in recent years have detailed Epstein's operations on the island, naming high-profile figures who visited but emphasizing that many were unaware of the illicit conduct.

Another insider from Johnson's circle added that the Speaker appreciates the island's natural beauty and privacy.

"It's about getting away from the Washington chaos," the insider noted. "Mike is feeling a little upset because he thought Thomas Massie was his friend."

The resort development aims to erase the island's tainted past by emphasizing eco-friendly tourism and exclusive amenities.

Visitors could soon enjoy helicopter access, private beaches, and spa services, according to promotional details from the buyer.

If Johnson proceeds, it would mark a bold personal decision amid his role steering the GOP majority.

"He sees it as a fresh start for the place," the family-connected source continued. "No distractions from old scandals once you're there."
