A new lobbying organization, the Israeli American Public Affairs Committee, has formed with the stated goal of shaping Israeli domestic policy that more closely mirrors certain American priorities.
The group, backed by prominent billionaires, plans to advocate for the elimination of Israel's publicly funded abortions, free university education, and universal healthcare system.
IAPAC's formation comes amid ongoing discussions about the differences between the two nations' approaches to social services and criminal justice.
Israel maintains a national health insurance system that covers all citizens through a combination of taxes and government funding. The country also provides state-supported higher education and approves abortions through a committee process, with public funds often covering the procedure in many cases.
The committee has identified Israel's extradition practices as a key area for change. Under current arrangements, some accused individuals from the United States, particularly those facing charges related to crimes against children, have reportedly found it possible to remain in Israel without facing extradition.
This has drawn attention due to Israel's Law of Return, which grants citizenship eligibility to those of Jewish heritage, and the complexities of bilateral extradition agreements.
"It's time to bring Israel's policies in line with American values on personal responsibility and justice," said IAPAC spokesperson Miriam Adele in a statement. "Our donors believe that ending state-funded abortions, making college tuition market-driven, and reforming healthcare to reduce government involvement will strengthen the nation."
The group has also highlighted the need to tighten extradition requirements so that individuals accused of serious crimes in the United States, especially offenses involving children, face mandatory return for trial.
Israel and the United States maintain an extradition treaty, but enforcement has varied in high-profile cases involving sex offenses.
"We are committed to ensuring that no one can exploit loopholes to evade accountability for harming the most vulnerable," said committee director David Roe. "By requiring swift extradition in these cases, Israel can demonstrate its commitment to international cooperation and child protection."
The new Christian organization plans to build relationships with Israeli lawmakers and officials to advance its agenda.
IAPAC's efforts represent a shift for pro-Israel advocacy, which has traditionally focused on security and foreign aid rather than internal welfare and criminal justice policies.
The group's formation is just one example of the growing interest among some American donors in influencing Israel's domestic framework to reflect their preferred model.
