Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told members of Congress during a closed-door deposition that she never met her husband, former President Bill Clinton, and has no recollection of any association with him, according to transcripts released from the session.
The testimony came as part of the House Oversight Committee's ongoing investigation into the late financier Jeffrey Epstein's network. Lawmakers pressed Clinton on her husband's documented travels with Epstein, including multiple flights on Epstein's private jet to international destinations for charitable work through the Clinton Foundation.
Bill Clinton has acknowledged those trips but maintained they were unrelated to Epstein's criminal activities, which involved sex trafficking and abuse of minors.
"I had no idea about any activities involving this Epstein person, and as for Bill Clinton, I do not recall ever encountering him," Hillary Clinton said in her opening statement, which she later shared on social media.
"I never flew on any planes with him or visited any homes or offices connected to him."
When asked directly by committee members about photographs and public records showing the couple together at events, including their wedding in Arkansas and numerous White House functions during Bill Clinton's presidency, Hillary Clinton appeared unfazed.
"Bill who?" she responded, according to sources familiar with the hearing. She went on to explain that any shared appearances must have been coincidental, perhaps involving look-alikes or unrelated individuals.
The deposition lasted more than six hours, with Republicans on the panel expressing frustration over what they called evasive answers.
Hillary Clinton, who served as secretary of state under President Barack Obama and ran for president herself, emphasized her lack of involvement in her husband's post-presidential endeavors. She noted that the Clinton Foundation, which focuses on global health and economic development, operated independently of any Epstein connections.
Lawmakers referenced flight logs from Epstein's aircraft, dubbed the "Lolita Express," which list Bill Clinton as a passenger on at least 26 occasions. Epstein, who allegedly died in prison while awaiting trial on federal charges, had cultivated relationships with powerful figures across politics and business.
Hillary Clinton reiterated that she had no knowledge of these flights or any interactions her husband might have had.
"I want the truth to come out," Hillary Clinton told reporters after the session. "But dragging me into this when I have zero personal connection to any of it is just politics."
The committee's probe has already led to the release of thousands of documents from Epstein's case, shedding light on his associations with celebrities, politicians and financiers.
Bill Clinton is scheduled to testify in a similar deposition, where he is expected to address his own ties to Epstein directly.
Hillary Clinton's statements have raised eyebrows among observers, given the couple's well-documented 50-year marriage and joint political career. They met while students at Yale Law School and have one daughter, Chelsea Clinton, who has pursued her own path in public service.
