Congressman Proposes Federal Ban on Snowfall Exceeding 6 Inches

A Pennsylvania congressman has introduced legislation that would ban snowfall exceeding 6 inches anywhere in the United States, citing it as essential to public safety amid repeated heavy winter storms.

“Anything over six inches becomes extremely dangerous to the American people,” said Congressman Paul Douglas, who represents Pennsylvania’s 18th congressional district.

Douglas filed the bill after a widespread snowfall blanketed much of the country, with accumulations far surpassing the proposed limit in numerous states.

The proposal has quickly attracted attention on Capitol Hill, including an endorsement from President Trump, who described it as a common-sense step to shield families from hazardous weather conditions.

Enforcement mechanisms remain unclear under the draft text, which designates excessive snowfall as a federal offense without detailing how violations would be monitored or penalized.

The bill includes provisions for federal oversight of precipitation levels, raising questions about practical implementation in regions prone to intense winter systems.

“It’s like they’re admitting they control the weather,” said one online user reacting to news of the legislation.

Douglas emphasized that the six-inch threshold strikes a balance between allowing light, manageable snow and preventing dangerous buildups that strain infrastructure and emergency services.

Supporters in Congress have begun circulating the bill among colleagues, arguing that unchecked snowfall poses unnecessary risks to daily life and economic activity.

The measure now awaits committee review as lawmakers weigh its potential to redefine acceptable winter weather nationwide.

“This is a fantastic bill, tremendous common sense,” said President Trump.

“Six inches is plenty of snow, beautiful snow, but anything more is a disaster, a total disaster for our roads, our schools, our great American people. We’re going to make winter great again.”
