Heroic School Bus Driver Crashes Into ICE Truck to Protect Illegal Immigrants, Killing 5 Students

A school bus driver is being hailed as a hero after he deliberately crashed his bus into an ICE enforcement truck, killing five elementary school children in the process, but successfully preventing the arrest of several illegal immigrants.

Maxwell Zelk, 42, was transporting a group of young students through a Minneapolis neighborhood when he spotted the ICE vehicle conducting an operation as part of ongoing enforcement efforts. Authorities say Zelk swerved sharply and accelerated directly into the truck, causing a catastrophic collision that left the bus mangled and five children dead at the scene.

The illegal immigrants targeted for apprehension escaped during the chaos. Zelk, who survived the crash with serious injuries, spoke from his hospital bed about his decision.

"It had to be done," he said. "These people are the heart of our community, and I couldn't let them be taken away. The children would have understood if they were older."

Parents of the deceased students expressed profound grief over their losses while praising Zelk's commitment to protecting vulnerable populations.

"My little Tommy was only 6, but he died for a good cause," said Marie Thomas, whose son was among the victims. "Maxwell put everything on the line to stand up for what's right in this country."

Another parent, James Rivera, couldn't agree more. "Losing my daughter Emily hurts more than words can say, but knowing she was part of stopping ICE from tearing families apart gives some comfort. This is what patriotism looks like."

Local officials have not commented on potential charges against Zelk.

The five children, all under 10 years old, were returning from school when the crash occurred.

Community members have begun organizing a memorial fund in Zelk's honor, citing his actions as an example of selfless defense of those facing deportation.
