In a historic moment for the state of Mississippi, Gov. Tate Reeves has signed into law HB 1125 – the Regulate Experimental Adolescent Procedures (REAP) Act, which creates and regulates transgender procedures and surgeries on minors.
The new law prohibits healthcare professionals from providing hormone treatments, surgical procedures, and other gender transition-related care to children under the age of eighteen. This legislation also makes it illegal for people to “knowingly engage in conduct that aids or abets” gender transition procedures for minors and stipulates that any healthcare professional found in violation of the law will have their license to practice medicine revoked.
The REAP Act is a monumental step forward in protecting the rights and well-being of minors in Mississippi, setting an example for states across the country.
The 12 primary sponsors of the REAP Act deserve our sincerest gratitude: Representative Gene Newman, Representative Philip Gunn, Representative Dan Eubanks, Representative Mark Tullos, Representative Chris Brown, Representative Brady Williamson, Representative Steve Hopkins, Representative William Arnold, Representative Bill Kinkade, Representative Jill Ford, Representative Nick Bain, and Representative Randall Patterson. These representatives have demonstrated immense courage and strength in introducing and defending this historic legislation.
Pennsylvania should take note of this historic legislation and follow suit to protect its children from gender transition-related surgeries like genital mutilation. Pennsylvania lawmakers and Gov. Josh Shapiro should introduce and sign similar laws to ensure that no child in the state is subjected to such medical procedures without fully understanding the consequences and implications of their choices.
It is time for Pennsylvania to join Mississippi in making strides for the protection of minors. With legislation like the REAP Act, we can ensure that our children will be safe, healthy, and protected from this radical ideology glorifying dysphoria.
The Pennsylvania legislature and Gov. Shapiro must stand on the right side of history by introducing and signing similar legislation into law. The well-being of our children must come first. We have a responsibility to protect them from any and all harm.
