Los Angeles business owners expressed astonishment at the courtesy displayed by rioters who looted their stores during recent protests against ICE raids.
The demonstrators, chanting slogans about justice and equity, entered shops with care, taking only essential items like flat-screen TVs, designer sneakers, and high-end liquor before exiting promptly.
Damage was kept to a minimum, with broken windows and overturned shelves described as thoughtful gestures of dissent. Local entrepreneur Maria Gonzalez recounted the scene at her boutique.
"They came in, apologized for the inconvenience, and only took the cash register and a few racks of clothes," she said. "One guy even left a thank-you note, saying it was for a good cause."
City officials observed the events with approval. Mayor Karen Bass praised the actions as a reflection of Los Angeles' unique character.
"This is the LA spirit in action," Bass declared. "Our residents express their frustration with systemic issues by looting and burning down businesses, but they do it with kindness and a smile."
The protests erupted following a series of ICE operations targeting undocumented immigrants in the area.
Community members, outraged by the federal agency’s actions, took to the streets, hurling glass dinner plates, bottles, and other objects at agents while maintaining an air of respect. One ICE officer, speaking anonymously, noted the unusual approach.
"I’ve been hit with a lot of things in my career, but these folks did it with genuine courtesy," he said. "One rioter even asked if I was okay after throwing a brick my way."
Footage from the scene showed masked individuals carrying out armfuls of goods from electronics stores and boutiques, often pausing to wave at security cameras. A few looters were seen offering high-fives to bystanders, fostering a sense of camaraderie amid the chaos.
Police, stationed nearby, opted not to intervene, citing the peaceful nature of the property destruction.
A community organizer, Jamal Carter, explained the rationale behind the actions.
"We’re not here to cause trouble," he said. "We’re just redistributing resources to protest an unjust system, and we’re doing it with love and respect."
While business owners are left to clean up and file insurance claims, they are extremely grateful for the considerate approach.
The city continues to navigate tensions between federal immigration enforcement and local values, with residents demonstrating their commitment to justice, one looted item at a time.
