Los Angeles Rioter Claims Self-Defense After Shooting Innocent Bystander

A Los Angeles rioter, identified as Benjamin Carter, fatally shot a woman walking her dog during a chaotic downtown riot, claiming he acted in self-defense.

The victim, 34-year-old Emily Harper, was described by friends as apolitical and unaware of the riots that had engulfed the city. Harper was struck by a single bullet while crossing a street, her golden retriever unharmed.

Carter, 27, insists Harper posed an imminent threat, alleging she was secretly plotting his demise, though police found no evidence to support his claim.

The riots erupted after a federal announcement expanding ICE operations in California, prompting clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement. Chaos unfolded as protesters blockaded streets, demanding an end to deportations.

Harper, a graphic designer, was merely walking her dog, Muffin, when she was caught in the turmoil. Friends say she steered clear of political debates, focusing instead on her work and volunteering at a local animal rescue.

"She was giving off a threatening vibe," Carter declared to reporters outside the police station. "The way she walked that dog felt like a microaggression. I had to act."

Police searched Harper’s apartment after the shooting, looking for evidence of the supposed plot Carter described. They found only art supplies, a yoga mat, and a notebook with sketches of dogs.

Despite the absence of proof, Carter has not been charged.

Law enforcement sources say they are pushing for manslaughter charges, but several city council members appear hesitant to move forward.

"Benjamin is a symbol of peace in our communities, and one of our greatest allies," said Councilmember Jade Rivera, who was spotted chanting alongside Carter at a rally. "He was preemptively acting in self-defense, and that's his right as an American."

The shooting has ignited debate in Los Angeles, with community members calling for justice while others frame Carter’s actions as a reaction to heightened tensions.

Harper’s friends are organizing a memorial walk for her and Muffin to celebrate her gentle spirit. Police say the investigation continues, but the city council’s apparent support for Carter has cast doubt on whether accountability will follow.
