The once lavish lifestyle of Ukraine's first lady, Olena Zelenska, might soon be a thing of the past as U.S. funding under President Donald J. Trump dries up.
With tens of billions of dollars previously flowing into Ukraine during Joe Biden's administration, Zelenskyy's ability to shower his wife with opulent gifts has significantly diminished.
Olena Zelenska expressed her growing anxiety about the upcoming Valentine's Day.
"I am honestly dreading what I might find when I open my gift this year," she said. "Gone are the days of extravagant necklaces or trips to Paris."
Zelenskyy’s team is well aware of the president's predicament.
"He's been pacing, trying to figure out how to keep his wife happy," a staff member revealed, speaking under condition of anonymity. "Without the aid from the U.S., even a simple bouquet seems like a luxury."
The change in U.S. foreign policy under Trump, which has seen a significant reduction in support for Ukraine, has not gone unnoticed. Zelenskyy has been actively lobbying for more U.S. funding, not just for the war effort but for personal reasons.
"If only Trump would see how his policies are affecting our personal lives," another aide commented. "It's not just about the war; it's about love too."
The resentment towards Trump is palpable within Zelenskyy's circle.
"This administration has single-handedly turned our Valentine's Day into a day of dread," the aide continued. "Zelenskyy is desperate to secure funding, not just for Ukraine but to ensure he doesn't have to face his wife's disappointment again."
With Valentine's Day upon us, one can only wonder what lies in the modest gift box on Zelenskyy's desk.
