Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has launched a bold initiative aimed at curbing a growing phenomenon among American social media users: noticing.
A political action committee linked to Netanyahu’s office is offering financial payments to conservative influencers who agree to stop identifying patterns related to Israel’s involvement in global events, including historical incidents like the USS Liberty attack and more recent controversies.
The move comes as millions of Americans have begun connecting dots across decades of geopolitical events, raising concerns in Jerusalem about the impact on Israel’s strategic alliances, particularly with President Donald Trump.
The USS Liberty incident, a 1967 attack by Israeli forces on a U.S. naval ship that killed 34 American sailors, has resurfaced in online discussions, alongside speculation about Israel’s role in Middle East conflicts and high-profile scandals like the Jeffrey Epstein case.
These observations, often shared on platforms like X, have prompted Netanyahu’s team to act swiftly to maintain Israel’s image abroad.
The PAC, named Unity for Strategic Silence (USS), is reportedly offering influencers sums ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 to refrain from posting about perceived connections involving Israel.
“Social media has become a breeding ground for dangerous ideas,” said Yossi Cohen, a senior aide to Netanyahu. “We’re simply asking people to focus on other topics, like sports or celebrity gossip, and we’re happy to compensate them for their cooperation.”
The initiative has sparked a wave of reactions online, with some users embracing the offer while others continue to highlight what they see as troubling patterns. The payments are structured as one-time grants or monthly stipends, depending on the influencer’s reach and commitment to silence.
Critics of the program argue it undermines free speech, but the PAC insists it’s a voluntary agreement to promote “narrative harmony.”
“This is about protecting a vital relationship,” said Miriam Levy, a spokesperson for Unity for Strategic Silence. “Noticing doesn’t help anyone. It just stirs up confusion, and we’re offering a practical solution to keep things calm.”
The program’s rollout coincides with heightened tensions in the Middle East, where Israel’s military actions continue to draw scrutiny.
Posts on X reveal a growing number of users linking Israel to events like the September 11 attacks and the Epstein files.
The PAC’s strategy appears to target conservative influencers specifically, given their influence over Trump’s base, which remains a cornerstone of U.S. support for Israel.
“We’re not asking anyone to lie,” Cohen added. “Just stop connecting dots that don’t need connecting. It’s a small price to pay for stability.”
As the initiative gains traction, some influencers have publicly declined the offer, citing a commitment to transparency.
Others, however, have quietly adjusted their content, with one prominent X account suddenly shifting from geopolitical commentary to talking about topics nobody cares about.
The long-term success of Netanyahu’s plan remains uncertain, but for now, the promise of cash is reshaping the online conversation, one unnoticed pattern at a time.
