A Republican school board candidate from rural Pennsylvania named Arnold Barker has reportedly posted to Reddit pleading for instructions on how to leave a group chat he created long ago.
Barker admits that the chat devolved into frequent racist and antisemitic jokes, though he swears in his post that he and the boys never meant any harm.
"I need help leaving a group chat without drawing attention," the post states. "I started it with some old friends to discuss politics, but it gets spicy sometimes. With my campaign heating up, I can't risk this coming out."
The school board candidate's polling is currently strong, but he fears that if his chat is were ever to be publicized, his career in politics would be over before he ever got elected.
"It's like I'm trapped in there," the Reddit plea continues. "Every time I think about just deleting the app, I worry it'll notify everyone. Tips appreciated, folks."
The group chat reportedly includes members who share theories about and stereotypical humor only appropriate for a group chat with the boys.
"Arnold was the admin who kicked it all off," said a participant in the chat, speaking anonymously to avoid backlash. "He'd post memes and links that set the tone, but now he's ghosting us in real life."
Pennsylvania's school board races, which determine local policies on everything from book selections to teacher evaluations, have become battlegrounds for broader ideological fights.
"Please, someone tell me how to bow out gracefully," the post begs in its final lines. "I don't want people to think I'm a racist antisemite."
Barker's campaign website highlights his commitment to fiscal responsibility, parental rights, and student achievement, positions that have resonated with voters frustrated by what they see as overreach in school governance.
Barker also commits to "defunding Israel" on his website, though the specifics of how that would be achieved as a school board member are unclear.
"Don't get me wrong, my friends are the best," Barker continued. "I just can't have them getting me canceled before I even get started."
Despite the potential controversy, Barker's polling remains strong.
