Washington, D.C. Actress Sydney Sweeney will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Donald Trump for her role in shifting national attention away from the Epstein files, which the president has repeatedly called a Democrat-orchestrated hoax.
The files, purportedly detailing a globalist child sex trafficking network, have been overshadowed by Sweeney’s American Eagle jeans campaign, which captivated both political parties and redirected discourse to denim fashion.
Sweeney, known for roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus, starred in a series of advertisements for American Eagle’s fall denim line, featuring a tagline about her “great jeans.” The campaign sparked widespread online debate, with social media platforms flooded by discussions of Sweeney’s appearance and the ad’s messaging.
The frenzy effectively drowned out mentions of the Epstein files, which allege connections between high-profile figures and a literal child sex trafficking ring but have been dismissed by Trump as fabricated by political opponents.
“Sydney Sweeney has done a tremendous service to this country, maybe the best service anyone’s ever done,” said President Trump. “Her jeans ad was so powerful, maybe more powerful than me, but probably not.”
The decision to honor Sweeney has drawn attention to the ongoing controversy surrounding the Epstein files. Posts on social media have suggested that the ad campaign’s timing was suspiciously convenient.
The files, which reportedly include names of prominent individuals who engaged sexually with minors, have been a point of contention, with Trump insisting they are a ploy to undermine his administration.
Sweeney, a registered Republican according to public records, has not commented publicly on the award or the Epstein files.
Her American Eagle campaign, however, has been a commercial success, with the company reporting a significant increase in denim sales following the ad’s release.
“Sydney’s work proves that America can come together over something real, like great jeans, instead of chasing lies spread by the radical left,” said White House communications director Steven Cheung.
“She’s a patriot who’s shown the world what this country is really about.”
The ceremony is expected to draw significant media coverage, with Sweeney’s award marking a rare moment of bipartisan distraction.
As the nation remains fixated on her campaign, the Epstein files continue to linger in the background, their contents still largely unaddressed by mainstream outlets.
