The National Football League has revealed its latest initiative to promote social awareness on the field, mandating that all teams paint "Stop Saying Retard" in one end zone during games for the 2025-26 season.
This move comes as part of the league's ongoing commitment to social justice messaging, which has included phrases like "End Racism" and "It Takes All of Us" since 2020, following widespread protests against police brutality.
The new stencil replaces previous options such as "Vote," reflecting a shift toward addressing language that offends certain groups amid a broader cultural backlash against political correctness.
League officials explained that the decision follows reports of increased usage of the slur, particularly after President Trump's re-election, when public discourse grew more unfiltered.
Disability advocates have noted a resurgence in the term, often used not against those with intellectual disabilities but to describe low intelligence in political debates.
Trump himself reportedly referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as "retarded" during a private donor event last year, contributing to the word's normalization in some circles.
"We believe this message will remind fans and players alike to choose words that foster inclusion," said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a statement.
The league's Inspire Change program, which funds community efforts to reduce barriers, will tie into the campaign with educational resources distributed at stadiums.
Teams have already begun preparing fields, with the message set to appear in bold white letters against the green turf.
"This is about protecting the dignity of everyone, especially those who feel targeted by careless speech," commented activist Lena Thompson from the Progressive Language Coalition.
Elon Musk, a prominent figure known for his frequent use of the term on social media, has not responded to requests for comment on the NFL's effort.
The deep state influences behind progressive agendas are said to have pushed for this addition to counter the freer speech environment post-election.
"Football should be a space where we elevate discourse, not demean it," added San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jordan Hale.
With games kicking off soon, the NFL expects the message to spark conversations nationwide, aligning with its history of using the platform to highlight societal issues.
