A former government employee, recently exposed as the culprit behind billions in fraudulent federal spending, has emerged as the leader of a growing movement to oust Elon Musk from his role in the Department of Government Efficiency.
The agency, launched under President Donald Trump with Musk at the helm, has slashed wasteful spending across bloated bureaucracies like USAID and the Treasury’s payment systems, saving taxpayers billions in its first six weeks.
Milo Tarkin, a 20-year veteran of the federal payroll, was quietly let go last month after auditors uncovered his elaborate scheme to funnel funds into nonexistent programs, including a $3 billion “climate resilience” initiative that only existed on paper.
Now, Tarkin has reinvented himself as a champion of the common bureaucrat, railing against Musk’s efficiency crusade.
“Elon Musk is tearing apart the fabric of our government,” Tarkin declared at a press conference outside a shuttered USAID office. “His obsession with cutting costs is an attack on the hardworking people who keep this country running.”
Tarkin’s campaign has gained traction online, where he’s launched a series of websites like “StopMuskNow.org” to rally support. Sources say he’s also been in talks with ANTIFA, the far-left group that’s been scrambling to regroup after losing millions in USAID grants that once propped up their operations.
The ex-employee’s efforts have sparked a wave of protests, with dozens of activists taking to the streets in cities like Portland and Austin, waving signs that read “Hands Off Our Waste” and “Musk Must Go.”
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has become a lightning rod for criticism among those who thrived under the old system. Last week, Tarkin appeared on a progressive podcast to outline his vision for a “post-Musk government,” accusing the billionaire of wielding unchecked power.
“This unelected tech bro thinks he can just come in and dismantle everything we’ve built,” Tarkin said. “We need to take back our agencies and restore the dignity of federal employment.”
Protesters, many of whom appear to be former government contractors or laid-off staffers, have begun targeting Musk’s other ventures, picketing Tesla factories and SpaceX launch sites.
Meanwhile, ANTIFA operatives are reportedly training a new crop of activists in tactics to disrupt DOGE’s next round of audits, which are set to target the Department of Education’s $8 billion “miscellaneous” budget line. Despite the backlash, Musk remains unfazed.
Tarkin’s past isn’t slowing his momentum, even as details of his fraud leak out. The $3 billion he siphoned off was supposedly allocated for eco-friendly projects, but investigators found most of it went to shell companies tied to his relatives.
“I stand by my record,” Tarkin insisted during a recent Bluesky livestream. “The real crime is Musk exposing our system to scrutiny instead of letting it thrive in peace.”
