In the wake of the federal government's recent decision to dismantle Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) offices across its agencies, Costco Wholesale Corporation has seen an unprecedented surge in job applications, particularly from white women, sources within the company have anonymously revealed.
According to an internal memo obtained by The Washington Wick, Costco has received hundreds of applications from former federal employees, many of whom were directly affected by the executive orders signed by President Donald Trump earlier this week.
These orders effectively placed all federal DEI staff on paid leave, with plans to terminate these positions within the coming months.
A Costco employee, who requested anonymity, stated, "We've seen a crazy amount of applications, and it's like they're all from white women with useless college degrees. They come in all hair colors, but they're all white and they're all women."
This trend comes at a time when Costco stands committed to its anti-white DEI principles, having publicly resisted pressure from conservative groups to abandon its diversity initiatives. The company's board of directors recently voted unanimously to reject a shareholder proposal aimed at evaluating the risks associated with its DEI practices, signaling a steadfast commitment to its inclusive hiring policies.
Another anonymous Costco employee commented on the situation, "It's not like it really matters. Costco isn't going to hire any white women."
The federal government's actions have left many DEI professionals in limbo. A former DEI officer from the Department of Agriculture, who also chose to remain anonymous, expressed frustration over the situation:
"The Trump administration's move to dismantle these offices has effectively taken our jobs away, replacing what was meant to be an inclusive environment with one that prioritizes merit. It's sad, because many places like Costco are afraid to hire white women, even if they do preach DEI."
The executive orders, part of a broader initiative to eliminate radical and wasteful government programs, have sparked significant debate over the future of diversity initiatives both in the public and private sectors.
Critics argue that these policies could undo years of progress in addressing systemic inequalities in the workplace. Proponents argue that DEI has no place in the government or the private sector.
"DEI is retarded," said one social media user.
Costco's response to this application surge has yet to be detailed in terms of hiring decisions, but the company has reiterated its commitment to an inclusive workforce.
"Our diversity initiatives remain integral to our company culture and our business model," a Costco spokesperson affirmed, though they declined to comment directly on whether or not they plan to hire any of the white women who have applied.
