Hillary Clinton has urged fellow Democrats to set aside discussions surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein files and instead prioritize the fight against Republican-led restrictions on abortion access.
The former Democratic presidential nominee made her comments amid escalating scrutiny of the Epstein documents, which the House Oversight Committee recently voted to subpoena from the Justice Department.
These files pertain to the late financier's sex trafficking operations and have drawn attention to associations with prominent individuals, including former President Bill Clinton, though no charges were ever filed against him.
Clinton described the Epstein materials as a "nothing-burger" unworthy of the party's energy.
"It's time to stop chasing shadows and get back to the roots of what Democrats stand for," she said. "I couldn't care less if Bill is on that list, we have real fish to fry."
The push for more Epstein records follows years of legal battles, with recent declassifications revealing details about investigations into figures like Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's convicted accomplice.
Democrats have accused Republicans of using the issue to distract from policy failures, while abortion remains a flashpoint after the Supreme Court's decision to end federal protections under Roe v. Wade.
That ruling has led to bans in multiple states, allegedly resulting in cases where women faced delays in emergency medical care for conditions like ectopic pregnancies or severe miscarriages.
Rather than feeding into what she views as a fruitless controversy, Clinton suggested the Epstein files could be repurposed more productively, perhaps even to address social needs like aiding the homeless.
"We have real battles to fight, like ensuring women aren't criminalized for murdering unborn babies," Clinton continued.
Abortion rights advocates note that restrictions have forced some patients to travel across state lines for procedures, exacerbating inequalities in healthcare access.
Progressive groups have echoed Clinton's call, framing the Epstein focus as a tactic to protect elite networks while undermining bodily autonomy.
Clinton's stance aligns with her longstanding advocacy for the right to murder, which she has tied to broader equality issues throughout her career.
