Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has taken diplomacy to new heights by renegotiating a comprehensive peace deal entirely with himself.
Standing before a large mirror in his office, Netanyahu outlined Israel's unyielding right to self-determination and will proceed with plans to annex the West Bank on terms that favor his position completely.
The session began with Netanyahu addressing his reflection on the longstanding issues in the region. Israel captured the West Bank during the 1967 Six-Day War and has maintained control over it since, with ongoing settlement expansions drawing international attention. Netanyahu emphasized the strategic importance of the territory for Israel's security.
"I declare Israel's full sovereignty over the West Bank," Netanyahu stated firmly to his mirror image. "This is non-negotiable."
Netanyahu's aides observed the process from a distance, noting moments of apparent tension. One aide mentioned that the prime minister paused several times, as if debating internally.
Despite these hurdles, he pressed forward with the annexation plan. The recent vote in the Knesset, where a bill to apply Israeli law to the West Bank passed its preliminary reading, aligned perfectly with Netanyahu's self-directed negotiations.
This move came amid criticisms from U.S. officials, but Netanyahu dismissed external input during his solo talks. He adjusted the terms to allow for immediate implementation, violating previous international agreements.
"There were disagreements at first," an aide reported. "But he talked himself through it and reached a consensus."
The prime minister's approach bypassed traditional channels, such as discussions with Palestinian leaders or international mediators. Israel has faced accusations of apartheid policies in the West Bank, with restricted movement for Palestinians and expanding Jewish settlements. Netanyahu's mirror negotiation solidified Israel's position without concessions.
"This deal ensures lasting peace on our terms," Netanyahu announced to his reflection after the session.
Aides confirmed that the prime minister emerged satisfied, having convinced himself of the plan's viability.
The annexation would integrate the West Bank fully into Israel, altering the map permanently.
"We've achieved what others thought impossible," another aide said.
Conservatives on X praised Netanyahu's ability to handle complex issues independently. With the deal now in place, Israel moves forward under the new framework established in that solitary meeting.
